- What we collect: The audio file you choose to transcribe.
- How we collect it: Only when you tap “Transcribe” (or similar) after sharing or uploading audio in the app.
- All uses: To generate your transcript, summary, action items, and notes. Results are stored only on your device. We do not use your data for other purposes.
- Who we share it with: We send your audio to OpenAI, a third-party AI service, to perform transcription and summarization. OpenAI’s handling of data is governed by their privacy policy, and they provide the same or equal protection for the data they process. We do not sell your data.
1. Introduction
VoiceNote ("we", "our", or "the app") is a mobile application that transcribes voice messages and audio. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle information when you use the app.
2. Data we collect and how
We process data only when you use the app:
- When: When you share or upload audio and tap to transcribe, or when you use in-app features (e.g. translate, edit).
- Audio: The audio file you select is sent to our transcription provider only at the moment you request transcription. We do not store your audio on our servers.
- Transcripts, summaries, action items, notes: Generated from your audio by the provider; stored only on your device.
- Subscription status: Stored locally; we do not operate a user account server.
Uses of your data: Audio is used solely to produce transcripts, summaries, action items, and secure notes for you. Processed results are stored on your device and are not used for other purposes.
3. Third-party services
We use OpenAI (and related services) for speech-to-text (transcription), summarization, and extraction of action items and notes. When you transcribe, your audio and the resulting text are sent to OpenAI to perform these tasks. OpenAI’s use of data is governed by their Privacy Policy. OpenAI provides commitments and safeguards for the data they process; we do not sell your data to third parties.
4. Data on your device
Audio files, transcripts, and app data are stored on your device. You can delete all data using the "Delete all transcriptions" option in the app settings.
5. Children
VoiceNote is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
6. Changes
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top will be revised when we do. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance.
